Michelle (Environmental Studies major/Anthropology minor) Ex-smoker

I had been a smoker for eight years. I told myself I needed to quit before I turned twenty-five. I didn't want to be a wrinkley old lady at thirty. I bought a pack of cigarettes,a box of fourteen 22mg. patches(first step) and a pack of Dentene gum. I smoked the cigarettes on a Saturday, woke up Sunday and put on a patch. I forgot to put a patch on after a week and a half and I haven't smoked or worn a patch since. It feels great to breathe and have money in my pocket. I think once I realized how much better it was to not smoke I didn't really need a cigarette.

Jerry (Open Minded major) Ex-smoker

I started experimenting with cigarettes in the 8th grade. I was still smoking when I started college. But after the beginning of my freshman year, I just grew out of that phase of my life. Smoking just didn't seem cool anymore. I started weight lifting and changing my life around. Smoking wasn't helping my strenght training at all. I decided to stop. I guess you could say that I used exercise to help me quit smoking. I haven't smoked since October 99 and I won't start again. I have better things to do with my life.
